Low-Prep Mother’s Day Crafts and Printables for Elementary Teachers

Mother’s Day is the perfect time to help students show appreciation for the women who love and care for them. But as a teacher, I know how hard it can be to find the right mix of heartfelt and manageable—especially during the busy spring (testing) season!

That’s why I’ve created some low-prep, high-impact Mother’s Day activities that are meaningful, student-friendly, and easy to implement in any 2nd–4th grade classroom. Whether you’re looking for a writing activity, creative craft, or gift-making moment, these ideas have you covered.

1. Mother’s Day Questionnaire and Keepsake Craft

This student-favorite activity combines writing, creativity, and personal reflection. Students answer a series of thoughtful, funny, and sweet questions about their mom (or mother figure) and draw a portrait to go with it. The responses are always heartwarming—and often hilarious! As a mother myself, these questionnaires are my favorite gift to receive. I still remember my children’s responses from years past.

Includes:

  • Printable questionnaire with 15+ questions for mom or grandma

  • Space for a hand-drawn portrait

  • Options for coloring and decorating

  • Perfect for a Friday activity or writing center

This keepsake is something moms will treasure for years—and it gives students a chance to use their voice and express appreciation in their own way.

2. Mother’s Day Coupon Book

This is one of my favorite Mother’s Day gifts to make with students. They love thinking about all the ways they can help at home—and moms love redeeming them! Students create a mini booklet filled with coupons that offer services, acts of kindness, and (every mom’s dream) a little peace and quiet.

Coupon ideas include:

  • A clean room without being asked

  • Breakfast helper for the day

  • One free hug

  • 15 minutes of quiet time

  • Reading a book together

You can provide 20–30 coupon choices (or let them create their own) and assemble them into a booklet with a cute cover. Punch a hole in the corner and tie it with ribbon for an extra touch!

3. Mother’s Day Bookmark Crafts (Choose Your Time!)

Whether you have just 15 minutes or a whole afternoon, these bookmark options are perfect for students to create a personal, useful gift.

3 Levels of Time Commitment:

  • Low on Time: Students color a pre-made template with a short message and add a tassel.

  • Have Some Time: Students can fingerprint flowers on the bookmark

  • Have More Time: Paint watercolor backgrounds, then write a heartfelt message with Sharpie.

Tip: Laminating the bookmarks makes them last longer and adds a polished finish moms will love.

With just a little time and heart, your students can create Mother’s Day gifts that go beyond the basics. Whether they’re answering a sweet questionnaire, crafting a personalized coupon book, or decorating a one-of-a-kind bookmark, these activities give students the chance to reflect, write, and give with purpose.

Best of all? They’re low-prep for you and full of love for mom.
